Unfortunately, due to Mardi Gras, the Super Bowl, excessive amounts of work and multiple illnesses in the Britton household, I have not been able to update the site with the results of the GBS In-House Homebrew Contest and Chili Cookoff. I had all the paperwork and scores saved for first through third for each category. Unfortunately for me, the misses saw the paperwork and knew the contest was over so she thew it all away. So I have to go off memory.
There were 3 categories that we took entries for. American Brown Ale, American Pale Ale, and American Indian Pale Ale. We awarded a plaque for winner of Best of Show. Scott Hespen was the big winner of the day with his entry of an American Brown Ale. Not only did it win its category, but it also took Best Of Show. His name will be forever enshrined on the walls of O'Fallon Brewery on the GBS In House Competition plaque. The American Pale Ale category was won by Troy Meier. And first place for the American IPA went to Ken Furhmann. Myself and the rest of the GBS staff would like to thank everybody for participating.
The Chili Cook Off was our biggest to date. We had a total of 16 chilis entered. We went a different route this year in judging though. Dave Johnson at O'Fallon arranged to have a professional chili judge come out and decide the winner. Sheldon Hartsfield is a certified chili judge and Missouri state champion 5 of the last 8 years. He decided what everyone else decided last year and Jeff Britton successfully defended his title as the top chili. Scott Hespen came in second and I don't remember who came in third. Again, on behalf of myself and everyone else in the GBS staff, thanks to everyone for competing.
This year was even bigger than last year in terms of turnout. Some estimates put the total amount of people there at over 100. That is close to doubling the size of last years total. Hopefully next year will be even bigger.

January 26th marks the Second Annual Garage Brewers Society Chili Cook Off. Jeff Britton plans on defending his title of "Greatest Chili Ever Made". Club members get together at O'Fallon Brewery and bring a pot of their own chili. Everyone shares theirs and we have a group voting for which one is the best. No prizes are awarded but the bragging rights are all you need. This year we will also be judging our first, soon to be annual, club only competition. This year we are welcoming entries from categories 10A American Pale Ale, 10C American Brown Ale, and 14B American IPA. The judging will be held the morning of the chili cook off and prizes will be awarded that day. Deadline to turn in entries for the competition is Tuesday, January 15th.
