One of the most popular events that the Garage Brewers do is the annual chili cook off and in-house beer competition.  This years event will be held on January 24 and will start at 2pm at O'Fallon Brewery.  The event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to show.  As the name states, this is a chili cookoff.  Last year 17 people submitted chili to be judged.  O'Fallon was able to secure professional chili judge and multi-time Missouri state chili champion, Sheldon (can't remember his last name) to judge for us last time.  We have been told he will come to judge for us again this year.  Not much can be said about Sheldons taste buds aside from them being perfect.  He made that perfectly clear when he judged the same chili that the people judged the year before as the best in the business.  We want as many people as possible to enter their chili this year to try and dethrone the champ.  So far, every year that GBS has held this event the same person has won.  We are not ones to name names, but the undefeated champion does plan on entering again.  Story continued

Chili is not all we do at the chili cook off.  As the plaque on the wall of O'Fallon brewery states, there is also an in house only beer compition.  Several GBS members are BJCP certified judges and they volunteer to judge our entries to BJCP style guidelines.  The best of show winner is forever immortalized on the plaque hanging in the brewery.  Scott Hespen will forever be remember as the first winner for his American Brown.  Who will join Scott on the plaque this year?  This years categories to be judged are; 7A North German Alt, 10B American Amber, and by overwhelming popular demand Category 9 Scottish and Irish Ales!   We have a new feature this year also.  We are introducing a special category.  Since it is a chili cookoff, we thought there should be a chili beer too.  No special style, just make it spicy!  The winner does not exactly get their name on a plaque, but there is a special prize just for them.  Once, again we want to make sure everyone knows that this event is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.  There are usually homebrewers brewing up a few batches, all the chili you can eat and as any GBS event goes, there will be plenty of beer to drink!  For more information or any questions you have, visit our forums at www.garagebrewers.com/forum  Hope to see you there!

THIS JUST ADDED - This year, the winner of the GBS In-House comp gets a bonus prize.  Not only will they get their name added to the GBS plaque but their beer will be brewed by the good folks at Buffalo Brewing Company and will be served on tap at the brewery.  The winner will also get a free keg to take home.
